For every child, early moments matter

UNICEF needs your support to help ensure the survival, protection and development of every child.

In the first years of life, neurons in our brain form new connections at the astounding rate of 700–1,000 per second – a pace never repeated again.

These connections are the building blocks of a child’s future. But if a child is poorly nourished and nurtured, if she/ he isn’t stimulated properly and protected from violence, then his/her development is seriously affected, sometimes irreversibly.

The first 1,000 days have a significant effect on a child’s future. We have one chance to get it right.

#EarlyMomentsMatter campaign is to increase awareness about the importance of the first 1,000 days of a child’s life and the impact of early experiences on the developing brain.

Did you know?

  • In India, 6,60,000 newborn children die in India every year;
  • 58 % of U5 (under-five) mortality happens within the first 29 days of birth;* and
  • Only 1 in 10 children (9.6%) between 6-23 months are receiving an adequate diet.**

These facts though shocking, are true! This is more the reason that we urgently need your support.

Let’s provide children the best start in life! Because #EarlyMomentsMatter

Your contribution means a lot to us. It will enable UNICEF through its intervention programmes to provide children with the best start in life. That’s all it takes really!
